Evolution of the Punjabi suits

There was a time when men and ladies, each were accustomed to wearing salwar kameezs as a part of their standard dress. They were worn mainly during the Mughal Empire. However, over the years the salwar kameezs have become popular in India and Pakistan and even today, they are being worn here.

Today, the salwar kameezs are popularly known as Punjabi suits in the Asian continent. These are worn by the Punjabi girls and women with brightly colored duppattas. A Punjabi suit mainly has two pieces of cloths: the kameez, or shirt or top piece, and the salwar, or pants or bottom piece. The colorful cloth that is worn by the women around their necks is called the duppatta. Salwar kameezs and duppattas come in a variety of colors and designs. There are many stores in India that specialize and sell only these articles of clothing.

The Punjabi suits have reworked themselves over the last few decades into varied designs, styles and cuts. Even the name has seen a heap of variations over the decades. The name Shalwar Qameez originated during the Mughal Empire, where Urdu was the ordinarily spoken language of the age. However, as over the years Hindi emerged Urdu became less common and Hindi language became the common language of the current era, the initial name came as salwar kameez. Today, they are more commonly known as Punjabi suits.

There are many different categories available like Patiala punjabi suits, churidar punjabi suits, designer punjabi suits, printed punjabi suits, silk punjabi suits, bridal punjabi suits etc.

Punjabi suits are greatly liked for the comfort that they offer while wearing them in day to day casual wear and also in weddings, functions and ceremonies. They are loose around the waist to the ankle, making it even more comfortable. They are created with varied materials like fabric, chiffon, net, satin, cotton, silk and different other materials together with the newest trends of fusion materials that is mixture of the above materials and artificial cloth.
